By Nicole Miller The annual Adequan/USDF Convention for 2016 was held in St. Louis, Missouri. Almost directly under the famous St. Louis Arch! I was honored to once again represent SEDA as a delegate Each Convention experience is a little bit different. Many of the faces are the same, but the location is always different and has its own brand of charm. One of the most interesting elements of the Convention is the Welcome Party on the first night: this is usually sponsored by the host Region and always gives a great bit of local flavor, plus an opportunity to mix and mingle with the other attendees.

By Parrish Frisbee Hello hello to all of my SEDA friends and readers! I’m writing this from my new base in Northern Illinois, where winter will be upon us much too soon. But for now, I’m going to give a recap of warmer travels I made in August, to volunteer at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games for our beloved equestrian sport.

In April, SEDA hosted a freestyle clinic with Cynthia Collins of Luna Tunes Freestyles at Equi-Best Equestrian Center in Covington, LA. There were a decent number of participants (always room for more!) and several auditors who took advantage of the opportunity to learn how to do a musical freestyle. I didn’t participate, but I did audit and sat in on the education session, too. It was an enlightening experience!

When I was 12 years old, I attended my first dressage show (as a spectator), and I saw Mrs. Vicky Busch riding a beautiful rendition of a Fourth Level test. I turned to my parents and said, “I want to do that!” I have admired dressage ever since. The way those high level riders can make their horses perform incredible movements with only the nudge of a leg or the tickling of a rein fascinates me.

2015 USDF Convention in Las Vegas by Nicole Landreneau

It was an honor to represent SEDA at the USDF Convention in Las Vegas in December. Convention is always an interesting experience: somewhat predictable, but always a few surprises. As the delegate for SEDA, I am required to attend the two Region 9 meetings held at Convention. The first day is always a long meeting, with much to cover and, typically, a few visitors come in. This time, the visitor was a representative from The Dressage Foundation. This worthy organization does a lot to provide money for dressage education at all levels.

Receiving the SEDA young rider scholarship was an honor, and I was excited to apply it to four dressage sessions with Vicky Busch of Busch Sporthorses last spring. I am also grateful to have been given the chance to continue training on Virtuoso during these sessions, who is a KWPN gelding owned by Mr. Richard Freeman of Oak Hill Ranch.
