Lauren Spreiser Clinic

Lauren Spreiser Clinic

By Natasha Fernandez

How do you make dressage fun? Well, you invite Lauren Sprieser to come on down to Folsom, LA and do a symposium! This was the most fun I have ever had at a dressage symposium. Usually dressage and fun do not coexist in the same sentence but Lauren has the talent of imparting her dressage knowledge in an extremely witty way. She very cleverly guided all levels of riders along using clear instruction.

This symposium included dressage riders and eventers from the area and one that traveled from Mobile, AL.  The horses ranged from young (3.5 years) to older (18 years young) and were trained from training level to PSG. In addition, we had quite a few different breeds represented – Thoroughbred, Welsh Cobb and warmbloods. With such a great range of riders and horses,  auditors learned a ton of different things.

Lauren gave a great lecture on maximizing learning opportunities. She gave advice on different ways to learn dressage especially if you don’t have easy access to in-person lessons on your horse. There are plenty of free videos and paid apps to increase your knowledge of dressage. Also, many trainers are offering lessons via virtual lessons.  She also hit on training tools that can be used to help with your riding.

I, myself, had fun learning how much I needed to take my leg off the horse so when I do use it, my leg can whisper. One of many things I learned during this symposium!

I want to thank Southern Eventing and Dressage Association for sponsoring this clinic plus all the riders and auditors that came out! In addition, a huge shoutout to Kalie Beckers Dressage for allowing us to have the clinic at her facility. I think we broke a record for the amount of viewers we had. At the busiest we must have had 15 people watching.

Thanks to Region 9 Adult Education funds for helping support the seminar.

Lastly, a big thank you to Lauren Sprieser of Sprieser Sporthorse for coming to our small horse community and putting on a spectacular and fun symposium.
