SEDA Well Represented at the USDF Region 9 Championships

By Paula Gregory

At least 14 SEDA members qualified and competed at the 2018 Region 9 Championships in Katy, TX (October 4 -7). This show is an official competition for the 2019 Great American Insurance Group/USDF Regional Dressage Championships and for the 2019 Southwest Dressage Championships.

The competition is at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy, which is a nice venue for championships with several covered arenas and it has been “spruced” up some since last year.  The theme of this year’s show was “Hit the Jackpot”.  The event included:  Stall Decorating Contest, Battle of the Barn Baskets, a silent auction, a Welcome Party, a Dog (Halloween) Costume Contest, a Happy Hour and a Banquet & Casino Night.  So, there were lots of opportunities to socialize with SEDA friends and to meet other people from our region.

The SEDA members who qualified and were in Katy:  Jamie Barowka, Kalie Beckers, Vicky Busch, Cameron Dauterive, Mary Alice Edwards, Paula Gregory, Elaine Harmon, Ashton Hourin, Lauren Knoerr, Regina Milliken, Dawn Petraitis, Isabella Rodwig, Samantha Shaffer, and Jill Zednick.

SEDA highlights of the competition:  Cameron Dauterive and her pony, Cheyenne, were National Dressage Pony Cup Champions for Region 9.

Our own Isabella Rodwig and the mule, Assasin, will be continuing on to the US Dressage Finals (Nov 8-11) to compete their musical freestyle.

Everyone should go to Regionals at least once – while the lower level classes are quite big, it is a really good experience for both you and your horse.
